DAY #46

Hello sir or madam.
I am writing to inform you of a jolly rotten occurrence. Fellows who fall foul to a frightful fever simply get up moments later...
I say!
Couldn't possibly be stranger, and what's more, the blighters have a good old pop at taking a nip! How very rude!
A wizard idea is to board up your doors and windows and keep your crying under your breath.
Now I don't want to have to tell you again! Go on, get a move on chap!
Night is closing in quickly, and those devils seem to lavish a spot of after-dark tottering!
Oh, and while you're at it, see if you can't round up some neighbours. Remember, we're all in this together!
Ta ta for now! God speed!
Wilfred Montague Hardy III
...And that's what the outbreak might have sounded like if it hit in the 40s instead of the early 90s.
In fact, I remember reading somewhere that the Nazis did try to make undead super-soldiers...
They apparently tried to create a fighter so committed to his Führer that even death wasn't an excuse to stop shooting.
Undead soldiers... Whatever next! Vampire bodyguards? Werewolf bouncers? Biscuits for breakfast? Marmalade for lunch?
Now, I think if Hitler's evil plans to auto-resurrect fallen combatants on the field of war had taken effect...
The Great British spirit might have fared better against the resulting horde than we did merely 19 years ago.
It makes sense... People were already barricading their houses to reduce bomb damage.
Like the old saying goes... 'If a V2 rocket can't break down a door, what chance does an infected have?'
Something like that. It might have been 'Walls have ears'. I can't remember. I'm not that interested in history.
Although it's nice to think that some of the war effort might have countered the dead rising to an extent.
The phrases like 'Make do and mend' and 'Grow your own' have just as much meaning post apocalypse, if not moreso.
Using land to grow veg is a great way to save yourself the horror of raiding empty supermarkets, and it's better for you too.
Repairing broken weapons or clothes or whatever is the kind of efficient, never-say-die attitude that goes a long way.
Don't get me wrong, they'd probably still have taken a heavy death toll...
All I'm saying is that they had the right idea. Still do...
Yes, that's why most of the retirement homes are infection free!
